Tuggernaut Will Win “Tug for the Town,” Again

Last year we won the Tug for the Town competition against much larger dudes. The reason was quite simple: high intensity interval training with a strength bias and some professional coaching from Forney. We will defend our title again this year and want to field two teams, one men, one women. If you are interested let us know in the comments.

We made it to the front page of CrossFit.com last year.

Here’s info about the event…

The main event will be a ‘Tug for the Town’ tug of war tournament at 2:00 PM on Sunday April 18th on the Mad Bowl field. Teams of eight will compete in a double-elimination bracket tournament broken up into a all male, all female, and coed league. All the proceeds from the event will benefit the Charlottesville Free Clinic, which provides health care and medicine to those unable to afford health insurance. The CFC treats over 5,000 patients a year and relies on the community to support its operations.

The event promises to be a great time for everyone who participates! There will be a LIVE BAND, free food from a variety of local restaurants, as well as prizes for the top finishers in each division.

The $10 entry fee per person includes all of the above mentioned activities as well as an event t-shirt. Come out and show your strength. You don’t want to miss it.

  1. Ben looks like a mix between a lion/cop/Allman brother. Radical.

    1. P.S. i want in.

  2. This HAS to be during the weekend of my PhD exams?!?! Gah.

  3. I’m definitely interested in participating!

  4. We’ll tug, tug, tug. I’m in.

  5. Fo sho I’m in. Are the prizes separable for the individuals? Or is it just going to Crossfit?

  6. Last year, the prize was free food (Belmont BBQ I think)! We had a picnic…that’s when the birthday WOD was invented. Forney puked. It was awesome.

  7. ben’s stache is epic in that picture

i’d probably be in for the tug of war but i doubt i’m one of the top 8 to field a team

    1. We’re actually going to need some lightweight guys like you and Francesco to round the team out. There’s going to be a team weight limit — I’m just not sure what it is yet.

  8. My band (Soiree) played at that event last year, it was a lot of fun! Also, I’m visiting town next week for a few days before I move back for good in May. I’ll stop by for sure.

  9. This looks awesome! Count me in.

  10. Are there any more women who are interested?

    1. I am so totally interested. But, like I said, that weekend is the one of my exams. Now… they are take home and written, so if I time it all correctly (and if my adviser emails me the essay questions on Friday or earlier) then I could theoretically be done in time to pull some major rope. A lot of ‘if’.

      1. Gretchen….? This is another excuse to wear pink and sparkly ribbons in your hair.

      2. Just for the record yes I am in. My exams will totally be done.

  11. Awh man, I would love to! Especially since it’s to benefit the free clinic. Unfortunately I think I’ll still be in Roanoke then. I might be able to come back to cville for the day if I’m not on call, but I won’t know my call schedule until next week. Also, I’m pretty weak, I’m sure there’s more experienced and buff crossfit women out there ready to kick butt.

  12. I really would have liked to, but I’ll be in NY for my grandparents 60th anniversary party. (Is that a good enough excuse??)

  13. I’m in if you need women assuming I don’t get sent on a last minute trip somewhere… nothing on the schedule yet!

  14. I’ll give it a shot if I’m not taking space from a stronger woman. :-p It was fun pulling the jeep the other day.
