“Deadlifts for Derek” Fundraiser WOD – November 1!

Registration is Live for the Event!

As many of you know, one of our dear friends and gym members, Derek Young, is battling cancer.  We stand with Derek and his family as he takes on this terrible disease.  CrossFit Charlottesville is organizing a scalable fundraiser WOD for all who wish to join us with prizes for top finishers and great raffle prizes for all who enter.  Sign-ups for heats will run between 9am and 12 noon and 1 pm and 3 pm on site when you show up.  BBQ will be provided midday for participants and volunteers.  We will also be selling raffle tickets for drawings for great gifts provided by Whole Foods, Relay Foods, Lululemon, Pure Pharma, Airrosti, Complete Nutrition and many others!

We plan to raise a lot of money for the UVA Health Foundation and Cancer Center treating Derek and also demonstrate our heartfelt support for our friend and his family!

The WOD

  • 90 second AMRAP (as many reps as you can get) – Deadlifts*
  • 30 second rest/transition

Then, at the 2 minute mark, 8 minute AMRAP:

  • 10 Calorie Row
  • 5 Burpee Box Jump Overs (24 inches for men/20 inches for women)
  • 10 Calorie Row
  • 10 Burpee Box Jump Overs
  • 10 Calorie Row
  • 15 Bupee Box Jump Overs
  • And so on until the 10 minute mark (Burpee Box Jump Overs will continue to go up by 5 reps each time. The row will remain at 10 calories the entire time)

At the 10 minute mark, 30 second rest/transition, then:

  • 90 second AMRAP – Deadlifts*

*YOU CHOOSE the weight of your deadlifts! We will be capping the deadlift weight at 225lbs for men and 165 for women!

Other Notes: You will receive 2 rankings on this workout.  1) the total amount of weight lifted and 2) score on the middle AMRAP of burpee box jump overs and rowing.  Your overall ranking will be the sum of your rankings from both parts.
