Our coaching staff prides itself on delivering safe, fun and effective workouts to our community. We are passionate about fitness and it gives us joy to help others on their way toward better health.  

 

Jonathan- Owner 

Years Coaching:

14. I started coaching fitness while serving in the Air Force Overseas. I was selected to run my unit’s fitness program and fell in love with the work right away. When I returned to the civilian world I soaked up all the knowledge I could from expert coaches in my local area like Kelly Starrett, Petar Petrov, and Jim Schmitz. Coaching has been my full time job since 2015 and it has brought so much joy to my life.
Certifications: Crossfit Level 2, USAW Sports Performance Coach, NASM Certified Personal Trainer

What caused you to become a coach?

Growing up some of the most important figures in my life were coaches. I had a few coaches who believed in me- yet were honest and never held back when I needed feedback. These experiences really shaped my belief in myself and made me more driven and confident. By the time I was in High School I was a disciplined athlete- training 2+hrs a day for track or basketball. I learned what disciplined practice could do and I knew that I’d be coaching in my future.

Which physical disciplines do you enjoy coaching most?

I’m passionate about coaching movement in general. I love to build foundations with clients who are new to strength and conditioning. It’s always so satisfying to see people accomplish goals they thought were forever out of reach.

This community is incredibly welcoming, inspiring and supportive. We have a strong group of Coaches and athletes who help each other keep showing up so that we can thrive inside and outside of the gym.

What caused you to become a coach?

I started coaching because I’m passionate about the incredible positive impact that exercise, especially CrossFit, can have on people’s lives. 

Which physical disciplines do you enjoy coaching most?


I love coaching Olympic weightlifting and seeing people develop skill in a challenging discipline! I also love coaching those tough, all out effort metcons – pushing people to work hard is so rewarding!

Because of the incredible personal growth you will see each day! Crossfit and the community at Crossfit Charlottesville push you to be the best you can be, physically and mentally. The confidence you’ll gain in the gym will extend outside of the gym to your whole life. Since starting Crossfit, my belief in myself has grown beyond measure, and I know it can do that for you too!

 

 

What caused you to become a coach?

Ultimately, I am coaching CrossFit because of that overwhelmingly rewarding feeling I get when I see athletes improve their skills, and I believe my background as a diver brings a unique perspective to help facilitate that.

I love coaching gymnastics!

What caused you to become a coach? 

One mission in my life is to help people discover who they are and what they truly want in life, and to be comfortable and confident in both of those areas. That honest self evaluation takes a lot of work and courage to begin. One of the best ways to discover yourself is to face and overcome challenges, particularly those in the physical realm. Once one discovers their own physical potential, it becomes easier to face other challenges that will develop and uncover our mental and emotional capabilities. These challenges then start to shape and define who we are: capable, strong, confident, healthy individuals. I am honored to assist my clients in their journey of self discovery and guide them through challenges that will enhance their physical, mental, and emotional health.

I have been a dedicated Crossfit enthusiast since 2015.

What caused you to become a coach?

I genuinely love helping people achieve their fitness goals and I love the positive and inspiring environment here at Crossfit Charlottesville.

Which physical disciplines do you enjoy coaching most?

I love coaching Crossfit and Powerlifting. My favorite workout is Murph. My favorite movement is the strict muscle up, and I love distance running.

Why should I try Crossfit Charlottesville today?

CrossFit provides functional workouts for people of any age or strength level. For me, CrossFit has always been about community. The way athletes and coaches support each other through difficult workouts (not to mention pandemics) creates a sense of inclusion and understanding that has culminated in many close friendships.

What caused you to become a coach? 

CrossFit has allowed me to live up to my mental and physical strength potential and I want to share that with others. I strive to be an example for clients that consistent hard work pays off and that no goal is unattainable.  In my personal life, my role as a coach is something I hope my daughter sees and can recognize her own potential to be a leader.

Which physical disciplines do you enjoy coaching most? 

Accessory work, including abs! Working specific muscle groups, especially the core, helps identify areas for improvement and fine tune the mechanics that lead to strong gymnastics and lifting.  

Why should I try Crossfit Charlottesville today?  

 Come for the fitness, stay for the community! CFC, as a whole, is a group of phenomenal athletes and personalities. If you want to get sweaty and meet some like-minded folks, this is the setting to do it. At its core, CrossFit is about functional fitness, which looks different for every member and all movements can be scaled/tailored for every participant – this is the beauty of CrossFit. The myth is that you have to already be “fit” or “in shape” to CrossFit, BUT I speak from experience when I say I had extremely limited athletic ability when I started CF in 2015; anyone can do this! Whatever your goals are in terms of fitness, training, weight-loss, etc. CFC is a supportive environment where you can pick up some new skills and smash PRs with some friends.
